Passing of Gerardo García Perales

In memory of Gerardo García Perales, President of AEDEM-COCEMFE

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gerardo García Perales, President of the Spanish MS Society (AEDEM-COCEMFE) on the 12th of September 2020.

Gerardo dedicated a large part of his life to working to improve the quality of life of people with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was working to improve the quality of life of people living with disabilities by holding in important positions in associations like COCEMFE or FAMMA. Due to his disease, he dedicated more time to MS, thus collaborating with, advocating for, empowering, and training others and giving the importance to Multiple Sclerosis it deserves (for instance requesting more funding from the Spanish government or the automatic recognition of the disability upon diagnosis).

Gerardo will be greatly missed and will always remain in our memory as a benchmark in the fight to give visibility and improve the quality of life of people with Multiple Sclerosis.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Mrs. Ana Isabel López Rivera, new President of AEDEM-COCEMFE

After the passing of President Gerardo García Perales, the Board of Directors of AEDEM-COCEMFE unanimously agreed to appoint Ms. Ana Isabel López Rivera as the new President of the organisation, who will assume this position until the elections are held in May 2021.

To give continuity to the team formed by President Mr. Gerardo García Perales, the Board of Directors of AEDEM-COCEMFE has restructured the positions accordingly. Find out more here.
